spotlight on the mighty underdogs, featuring mf doom!

From The Mighty Underdogs debut full length album, Droppin' Science, we're featuring the video for "Gunfight" this week! It's a pretty awesome video by Ben Stokes they have going on, and I just love the opening verse that contains the lines, "I stepped out the saloon / About a quarter to noon / Might as well have been a quarter to doom!"

no tricks behind artist kevin morgan's rock balanced sculptures

Zadi writes in the Vimeo entry for this video:

I met artist Kevin Morgan in Venice Beach while on a photo shoot with the Bui Brothers. We gravitated toward his freestanding rock sculptures from far away wondering if they were people. Once in close range, we realized what they were and Kevin was kind enough to share the backstory.

PS: Sorry about the wind. I only had my little Canon Powershot on me.

hacker + mad scientist + macgyver = bre pettis

We've known Bre Pettis for years now, and I have to say that no one epitomizes the web DIY ethic more than him. In the course of his varied career, he has been a puppeteer, a teacher, a videoblogger, a web show producer, and a television host, not to mention a founder of NYC Resistor. Phil Torrone of Make Magazine said in The Wall Street Journal that Bre was like Mr. Rogers, Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye "The Science Guy" rolled into one. That's a cool description, but I think eventually Bre will be a brand all his own.

ill bill is sick of the pain

As a current "La Coka Nostra" member and former member of "Non Phixion", Ill Bill is known for being intense. The recently released music video for "My Uncle" - from his current album entitled "The Hour of Reprise" - is no exception.

"My Uncle" speaks of Ill Bill's childhood in which he grew up in a family where drugs were seen as commonplace. His voice angrily cuts through the intensity of the track as he spits out the frustrations of watching his uncle deteriorate from being his childhood hero to a hopeless addict. But, even in all the anger and frustration, there is a hint of hope in Ill Bill's voice. Ill Bill even says it himself in regards to his uncle: "we got love for you."

Slices of my first day in South Africa.

Virgin Atlantic Lounge

Right now I’m sitting in the Virgin Atlantic lounge at Heathrow airport - funny that I’ve been to this airport three times but haven’t actually walked the streets of London yet. I have a five hour layover, which on paper seems awful, but this lounge is kick-ass and I think I could live here for a while if prompted. Complimentary drinks, food, wifi, massages, fluffy hairdos and haircuts — can we make it a ten hour layover, please?

what do you do when you get a locked briefcase in the mail?

Today we received a box that contained a locked metal briefcase and a letter. Here's the text of the letter:

I saw a list with your names on it at Armacham & I need your help.

Armacham will be initiating a fear lab in New York City and they are going to try to contact you to take part in the test. Do not participate!

Post a video or image of this case on your website by December 3rd. After I verify you have done this I will release the combination to open the case on the forums at ProjectOriginCommunity.com/forum.

I will log in under "Case Man" on December 5th.

macy's thanksgiving day parade rick roll

It's the Rick Roll to end all Rick Rolls. This morning as the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends float rolled on by, Rick Astley himself came out and Rick Rolled the entire nation with his revived web hit Never Gonna Give You Up. I think this pretty much caps what you can do with a Rick Roll.

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Smart Car, Paris design house Hermes created 10 stylish models. Each running about $48,560, the interior offers unique shades of pinks, oranges, and blues.

It's kinda snazzy if you're into the whole 'saving the environment' thing, but gotta do it in serious style.

tiki bar tv is the perfect prescription

In the Spring of 2005, indie filmmaker and Vancouver native, Jeff Macpherson, got together with some friends and decided to take his creative career into his own hands. Along with Kevin Gamble (Johnny Johnny) and Lara Doucette (Lala), Jeff built a swank tiki bar in his Canadian apartment and created Tiki Bar TV, a fictional webseries about a doctor (Dr. Tiki) who prescribes medicine for the ailments which surface in each episode.

what does it mean to go from street artist to gallery artist?

Artist Know Hope hails from Tel Aviv and is only in his early 20's, but he has gained notoriety around the world with his street artwork and group exhibitions. His debut solo show took place in San Jose, California in October and included a site-specific installation made specifically for the show.

Much of his work is created around the idea that everything is temporary. Indeed the title of his solo show was "Temporary Spaces." On the street, art is always temporary. Someone comes along and covers it, or nature takes ownership. But what about creating art for galleries? Does that mean the work is no longer temporary because it's created to exist and be a part of someone's collection, or their life?

top 3 iphone style apps

Here are a few style apps for your snazzy iPhone (All free of course. Hey, these are hard economic times):

Hairstyle Lite lets you snap a photo of yourself with your iPhone and has six hairstyles for you to try on. It's a good idea even though some of the styles are a bit hideous. At least you'll get a good laugh.

Sex and the City: Carrie's Closet is overwhelmingly cheesy but so useful! It lets you snap photos of pieces that you already have in your closet and create "outfits", then send them to a friend for a second opinion. It's good for someone like me that has so much crap that I need to take inventory.

The Style.com app is by far the best. It's great for up to the minute industry news, style blogs, and videos. Plus, you can view complete collections from Fashion Weeks around the world.
