Mariah Carey Topless! Mariah Carey was spotted topless while vacationing in the Caribbean. Wearing a skimpy little bikini bottom and carrying a well-placed magazine. The scene looked staged. It was unlikely Mariah would allow herself to be photographed topless in candid shots without reason. She's really a Hottie!

Oh My Honey! Green Honey is now one of the best selling products of Palawan, Philippines. It is a natural mint-green colored honey and has the same taste like the usual natural honey we've bought from a supermarket. Palaweños (palawan locals) said that green honey can heal wounds, cough, and some illness. According to them, green honey is rare and difficult to harvest. It can only be found in a palabawen (wasp) underground hive in the forest. They dig the hive then burn it to kill all the wasps inside and also to prevent them from wasp sting. But some experts still doubt that green honey really exist.
I read an article from Inquirer.net about green honey analysis. Based from Dr. C.R. Cervancia (head of the National Center for Excellence for Bee Research and Development), “Unlike bees, which have a receptacle for honey in their bodies, wasps are unable to collect and transfer it to their nests for storage. Since they’re not known to consume algae, their production of green honey is even more unlikely." Investigators from UPLB went off to palawan searching for it in its natural environment and they confirmed that it can’t be found in nature! Chemical analysis indicates that green honey is adulterated with blue and yellow pigments.
According to Cordillera Green Network (CGN), they identified that Calliandra (Calliandra colothysus) can be a possible nectar source for "green honey" production based from the result of a research conducted by University of the Philippines, Baguio. Calliandra is a tree species which grows over 10 meters in height with leaves like ipil-ipil and upright flowers that resemble the florets of the bottle-brush tree with a yellow-green nectar which can be converted into highly viscous, deep-green colored honey.

Google's Plan To Save The World Google.org, Google's philanthropic arm, has announced five core initiatives that it plans to focus on over the next five to ten years.
Google.org will "collaborate with experienced partners working in each of these fields, investing its resources and tapping the strengths of Google's employees and global operations to advance its core initiatives." More than $25 million in new grants and investments from Google.org, will be handed to these initial partners.
Google's founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, have committed to devoting approximately 1 percent of the company's equity plus 1 percent of annual profits to philanthropy.
In the past, Google.org has focused mainly on environmental issues but they are now expanding their vision.
The five initiatives Google.org will focus on:
Predict and Prevent - supporting efforts to empower communities to predict and prevent the spread of diseases before they become local, regional, or global crises, by identifying "hot spots" and enabling a rapid response. The initial focus will be on Southeast Asia and tropical Africa in the areas' global health threats (specifically SARS and potentially bird flu), humanitarian crises, biological threats, and climate variability.
Inform and Empower to Improve Public Services - improving the flow of vital information to improve basic services for the poor in India and East Africa. With failing essential public services, especially for the poorest members of these countries, Google.org will work with their partners to empower citizens and communities, providers, and policy makers to improve the delivery of essential public services such as education, health, water and sanitation.
Fuel the Growth of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises - Along with their partner, Google.org wants to help increase the flow of capital to small and mid-sized businesses specifically in Ghana and Tanzania, by tackling some of the root causes that prevent these firms from becoming profitable investment opportunities.
Develop Renewable Energy Cheaper Than Coal- working toward a goal of producing one gigawatt of renewable energy capacity that is cheaper than coal. The aim is to have this accomplished within a few years, not a few decades. The focus will initially be on advanced solar thermal power, wind power technologies, enhanced geothermal systems and other potential breakthrough technologies.
Accelerate the Commercialization of Plug-In Vehicles (RechargeIT) - an initiative that aims to reduce CO2 emissions, cut oil use and stabilize the electrical grid by accelerating the adoption of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and vehicle-to-grid technology. Google.org will invest amounts ranging from $500,000 to $2 million in selected companies whose innovative approach and technologies will enable widespread commercialization of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles.
Dr. Larry Brilliant, executive director of Google.org, explains that "these five initiatives are our attempt to address some of the hard problems we as a world need to face in the coming decade. We have chosen them both because we think solving them will make a better, fairer, safer world for our children and grandchildren - and the children and grandchildren of people all over the world - but also because we feel that these core initiatives fit well with Google's core strengths, especially its innovative technologies and its talented engineers and other Googlers, who are really our most valuable assets."
Many readers of this news have commented that $25 million over ten years is not a lot, considering the billions of dollars they earn each year. Let us know what you think.
Eventhough Renaldo Lapuz don't have that American Idol factor, he still entertained us on his debut on American Idol Dallas audition last wednesday. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? The new 10-million Zimbabwe note is the equivalent of about $4(US) at the dominant black market exchange rate. Zimbabweans will be soon lining their pockets with 10-million-dollar bills. The central bank announced last thursday it would increase the denomination of the nation's highest bank note more than tenfold to keep pace with the world's highest inflation rate, officially estimated at 25,000 percent annually. Independent financial institutions say real inflation is closer to 150,000 percent.
Zimbabwe is in there 10th year of economic crisis, marked by the world's highest rate of inflation, the fastest shrinking gross domestic product in a country not in a state of war, the most rapidly collapsing currency and unemployment of over 80%. A year ago, the highest denomination was 10,000 Zimbabwe dollars, then worth about $7, now it is worth about 1/3 of 1 cent (US).
Fitbone Wanna walk tall? If Mother Nature has failed to give you that statuesque figure, worry not. Fitbone surgery, an advanced and high-tech option for leg lengthening, promises to add those crucial inches. This is a relatively-new surgical procedure for lengthening bones and skeletal deformities. It involves a fully-implantable, electronically-motorised, limb-lengthening device. The average length a limb can be elongated is between 5-9 cm. Of course, it comes at a painful price. The procedure is being done in Singapore, Bangkok, Malaysia and the Philippines.
This surgery is also done on those with injuries, congenital defects and certain kinds of dwarfism. It's rarely done on kids under 16 due to risk of damage on growth plates. Fitbone surgery is an advancement over the older Ilazarov surgery where the patient's leg is fitted with a frame that pierces the skin, muscles and bone. Screws attached to the bone are turned 1 mm per day. After the growth gap is closed, patients have to wear the frame till the new bone solidifies. Beware, there's risk of infection.
Fitbone surgery, on the other hand, involves cutting the bone and implanting a metal telescopic nail containing a motor. This expands lengthwise about 1 mm a day as the bone grows around the expanding rod. It's powered and controlled by radio signals from outside. After being lengthened, the bone is allowed to solidify. Surgery takes 3-4 hours and the patient has to remain in hospital for about a week. It could take some nine months for the patient to walk again. The rod is removed after two years.

ONLINE JOB search engine Vidres.net is expanding its services to a worldwide audience in the next three years, opening up opportunities to Filipino workers willing to send videos of themselves to land a job instead of submitting the usual resumés.
Still new in the game, having operated for only six months, the job search engine wants to gain clients abroad, specifically the United States, Europe and Middle East where job markets are limit-less, Vidres Chief Executive Florante F. Cruz said.
The Internet company’s product, which has won a Gold Quill award for excellence, allows job seekers to send video resumés to their target employers. It is the first in Asia where most job search engines rely on paper-form information from job-hunters.
On its Web site, Vidres sums up the benefits of a video resumé for employers: "Through a video presentation, job applicants can demonstrate their communication skills and personality and highlight their unique qualifications. [It also] makes hiring faster and cheaper as it lessens the time and cost, [and] eliminates the initial screening process."
The site is owned by information technology firm OCean8 Corp., harnessing education and training experts and technology and communications specialists.
The search engine now has a database of 2,000 job seekers across the Philippines. The video resumés of these jobseekers are open to local corporate clients, ranging from call centers to hospitals and maritime agencies.
Mr. Cruz said opening the database to a wider audience is simple "since it’s already on the Web and it’s boundless." It’s just a matter of tweaking the system to incorporate additional materials for the database, he added.
"We’re going to start partnering with clients abroad, but the management is still thinking if we’re going to do it ourselves or open a franchise. But definitely, the platform will be based here in the Philippines," he said.
While preparing the system, Vidres is launching several programs in the Philippines to strengthen its database of resumé.
The Department of Labor and Employment recently asked for access to the search engine for its own Internet-based job and applicant-matching system.
Mr. Cruz also said Vidres is linking up with Internet cafés across the country to introduce the system to job seekers.
This "innovative" way of looking for jobs is one way of answering "the problem of unemployment," he said. "Jobs are very much available but companies are having a hard time getting the right employee." Mr. Cruz said.
Gone are the days when firms have to go through a number of resumés to find the right worker. Video resumés allow both the employer and the job seeker to cut down on employment costs, Mr. Cruz said. — Ira P. Pedrasa/BusinessWorld
Goodbye Referrals? If you're outside of North America, Latin America, and Japan, AdSense referrals will be retired.
For publishers not located in any of the three regions detailed above, we'll soon be retiring referrals promoting AdSense. We've found that this referral product has not performed as well as we had hoped in these regions. Again, please keep in mind that you can still generate referrals for the other products listed under the 'Referrals' section of your AdSense Setup tab.
Soon, you'll no longer see the option to create a referral button for AdSense in your account, although existing buttons will display as normal. This specific referral type will then be retired during the last week of January - any users who meet the conversion criteria (reaching $100 in earnings within 180 days of sign-up and removing all payment holds) before the change will generate earnings of $250 for the referring publishers. Any conversions which occur after this change is made will not be recorded in your account. You may wish to begin replacing any existing referrals promoting AdSense with referrals for another product or an AdSense for content unit.
We appreciate your support of this referral product, and hope it won't cause you any inconvenience.

Ferrari's Green Machine Yes, even Ferrari is talking about the environment at this year's Detroit show. The unveiling of the Spider Biofuel was done with very little fanfare, which led some industry observers to question just how dedicated Ferrari is to going green in a big way. The sleek Ferrari F430 Spider Biofuel, with green stripes on its silver bodywork, consumes an E85 -- 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline -- mix, a growing fuel blend in the U.S. The ultimate goal is to cut emissions by forty percent by 2012. The company stresses that they will make this happen without compromising performance.
Ferrari says technical characteristics have remained unchanged with respect to a standard production engine on this prototype. On the F430 Spider, the fuel system and the engine control unit are modified to handle the ethanol fuel. With these changes, the Ferrari gains 10 hp along with a four percent boost in torque. On top of that, CO2 emissions fall by five percent when ethanol fuel is used.

Killer Worms Intestinal capillariasis caused by Capillaria philippinensis appeared first in the Philippines and subsequently in Thailand, Japan, Iran, Egypt, and Taiwan, but most infections occur in the Philippines and Thailand. As established experimentally, the life cycle involves freshwater fish as intermediate hosts and fish-eating birds as definitive hosts. Embryonated eggs from feces fed to fish hatch and grow as larvae in the fish intestines. Infective larvae fed to monkeys, Mongolian gerbils, and fish-eating birds develop into adults.
Larvae become adults in 10 to 11 days, and the first-generation females produce larvae. These larvae develop into males and egg-producing female worms. Eggs pass with the feces, reach water, embryonate, and infect fish. Autoinfection is part of the life cycle and leads to hyperinfection. Humans acquire the infection by eating small freshwater fish raw. The parasite multiplies, and symptoms of diarrhea, borborygmus, abdominal pain, and edema develop. Chronic infections lead to malabsorption and hence to protein and electrolyte loss, and death results from irreversible effects of the infection.
Treatment consists of electrolyte replacement and administration of an antidiarrheal agent and mebendazole or albendazole. Capillariasis philippinensis is considered a zoonotic disease of migratory fish-eating birds. The eggs are disseminated along flyways and infect the fish, and when fish are eaten raw, the disease develops.
Happy 50th Birthday SMURF!! Perhaps we know them best through the animated television series from Hanna-Barbera Productions, "The Smurfs." Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Handy, Jokey and the troop of 96 others celebrated 50 years of Smurfmania. The late Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford "Peyo" introduced Smurfs to the world in a series of comic strips, making their first appearance in the Belgian comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou on October 23, 1958.
The Smurfs are a fictional group of small sky blue creatures who live somewhere in the woods. Forest dwellers who live in little white-capped mushroom homes, developed their own "Smurf" language in which nouns and verbs were interchanged. Their debut on U.S. television in 1981 launched their global rise to stardom and made the Smurfs a household name. A Smurf is a "Pitufo" in Spanish, a "Schlumpf" in German, "Nam Ching Ling" to the Chinese, a "Sumafa" in Japan and "Dardassim" in Hebrew.
Marking 50 years of Smurfdom, organizers are planning everything from a 3-D animation feature film expected to be released next year to new comic book collections and a remastered release of the popular 1980s television animated series.
This is a documentary about freedom and individuality. A story about doing what you really want to do. This unconventional i-Witness episode also serves as a trip down the 80’s memory lane, when fashion and music were flamboyant and experimental. Jay Taruc (filipino journalist) discovers what makes Joseph tick when he follows him around for a week of endless retro parties. Taruc’s documentary is a journey into the life and mind of the ultimate party icon, trapped in an 80's time warp.
Joseph "Jay" Pamintuan grew up in Cebu, Philippines where a local FM radio station instilled his passion for music. When his family decided to transfer to Manila in the 80’s, Joseph experienced his first new wave underground events, where he partied all night. Everyone in the music scene knew him then: band members, new wavers, groupies and mobile disc jockeys alike. In the late 80s, Joseph sported a new wave hairdo, danced the strut and wore a red jacket patterned after Michael Jackson’s Thriller costume.
And after two decades, Joseph is still partying 80's style. The year 2008 has already begun and finds Joseph still wearing the same hairdo, still performing the same dance moves, still hanging onto the Michael Jackson jacket and still a fixture on the party circuit. How Joseph can go on like this is a mystery to many. But one thing they all agree on - no one can party like him.
Fire In The Mole A mole, whose medical name is a melanocytic nevus, is an common benign growth of the color cells of the skin called melanocytes. Moles normally appear in the first year of life and peak in number in the second or third decade, when the average number is 25. The total number of moles on the skin increases with significant sun exposure and in particular with sunburns before the age of 12. Some moles may disappear in the seventh to ninth decade.
Part of the Chinese Art of "Mian Xiang":
Any mole with a reddish gleam is always a sign of good luck, no matter where it appears. Dark moles are more ominous, especially if they change shape or size. Right on the hairline: Prosperity.
Between the eyebrows: Great wisdom.
On the tip of the nose: Your prosperity is constantly under threat.
On the inner ear: You have an above-average talent and will enjoy a long life.
Right cheek: Successful life.
Left cheek: You are studious and struggling.
On each cheek: You'll enjoy success after much hard work.
If any mole at all ever changes shape or size, consult a doctor. It could be early sign of melanoma. Anyone who has more than 100 moles is at greater risk for melanoma. The first signs can appear in one or more atypical moles. That's why it's so important to get to know your skin very well and to recognize any changes in the moles on your body. Look for the ABCDE's of melanoma, and if you see one or more, make an appointment with a physician immediately.
Asymmetry - One side of the mole does not match the other side of the mole and appears uneven. If you draw a line through this mole, the two halves will not match.
Border - The borders of an early melanoma tend to be uneven. The edges may be scalloped or notched.
Color - The color of the mole is uneven and varies in shade. Having a variety of colors is another warning signal. A number of different shades of brown, tan or black could appear. A melanoma may also become red, blue or some other color.
Diameter - A mole bigger than a pencil eraser. Melanomas usually are larger in diameter than the size of the eraser on your pencil (1/4 inch or 6 mm), but they may sometimes be smaller when first detected.
Evolving - Any change — in size, shape, color, elevation, or another trait, or any new symptom such as bleeding, itching or crusting — points to danger.
