Adobe Photo Shop Training - What You Need to Know

If you take a poll of the top web designers and graphics professionals, and ask them their preferred tool for creating and editing digital images, the top choice would almost always be Adobe Photo Shop. This is the standard for the graphic design industry. For that reason, Photo Shop training is always in great demand, and the options for getting that training are plentiful.
If you are just getting to know Photo Shop, don't let the name throw you off. This is far more than a photo editor. While many people use the program to edit new images for projects or restore older photos to new life, the most popular applications include graphic and web design projects. Clearly, with the explosion of the Internet, services provided by Photo Shop users are always in demand.
For digital image applications, it is unparalleled. Create, enhance, retouch, optimize, combine, whatever you want to do, Adobe Photoshop can do it. As you can imagine, learning this program isn't necessarily a piece of cake. Good Photo Shop training must be structured to begin with the very basics and move forward, teaching one new element at a time. Too many courses that I've seen assume too much familiarity with the program off the bat. Students can immediately be lost the minute they begin.
Here are some of the features to look for in Photo Shop training courses.
- the material should be structured in modules, beginning with the assumption that the student knows little or nothing about the program or what it does. Each module should build on the previous modules in a logical and meaningful manner. In this way, more advanced students with some working knowledge can jump ahead to the appropriate part of the training and move forward from there.
- books or manuals with written instructions should be used as supplements, not as primary instructional media. Since this is a digital imaging application, for most people it is much easier to learn by watching, rather than trying to get the idea from printed copy alone. Books and manuals are the best choice for reference material to consult during the training, but poor for use in the actual teaching.
- I personally prefer step by step video training, presented in such a way that you can have the video running on one part of your screen and the Photoshop program open in another. I've found that most people learn graphics editing skills best by following and doing, and student progress with video-based Photo Shop training appears to be more rapid.
Why learn Abode Photo Shop? The reasons are plentiful. Many people use the software for simple photo editing or to create unique family photo albums. Frankly, for this type of work, it is overkill. This is primarily a commercial application, designed for people who do web design or digital image editing for a living. If you have a desire to master the top application in the industry, and learn skills that can pay you very well, Adobe Photo Shop training is a smart choice for you.

Learning Photoshop is challenging and mastery of the program requires organized and comprehensive training. For an excellent series of video tutorials that take you from beginner to intermediate and beyond as quickly as possible, check out our Photo Shop training series.

Pretty Up Your Photos With Photoshop

You may not have a great digital camera or even take great pictures, but by learning Photoshop you can touch up and add effects to any photograph. Of course I'm not saying that your photos will look truly professional, but they can be enhanced, framed and tweaked to be sharper, muted or more exciting than when they were taken.

It's All About Those Special Effects
Here are some examples of effects you can incorporate into your digital photos:
• You can make your photos look like they were taken at the turn of the 20th century with a "sepia" effect (though clothing and digital watches might give your trick away)
• You can add beveled borders to your photo and then print it and place it in a nice wooden frame.
• You can drop pixels from the photo by lowering the resolution of the photo for the look of a very grainy picture.

It's not too hard to learn to use some the basic attributes. But that's only the beginning. Photoshop is widely used by professionals, and has the power to prove it. After you've mastered the basics, you can increase your ability and create very sophisticated image processed effects and incorporate them into documents, presentations and websites. There is nothing like a striking image or photo to grab attention.
The Power Depends on Your Knowledge and Imagination
If you have used the more sophisticated software packages before, you know it can be a chore to get a good grasp on how to do things. And so often, so much power goes to waste just because you don't know how to do it, or you are not aware of what can be done.

One way to overcome the learning curve and get a jump start to productivity, along with the more advanced hints and tricks, is with a good set of computer learning CD's. Before you know it, you would be able to apply your new skills to create special effects on the photos you upload onto your social networking pages (e.g. MySpace, Facebook, Digg, Squidoo, etc.) or your commercial web-site. Who knows, your appetite may be whetted enough to become a professional photographer or designer.

Wedding Photo Editing - Some Photoshop Ideas to Make Your Wedding Pictures Glamorous

Weddings are indeed one of the happiest moments a person can have in his or her life. Of course, walking down the aisle with the man you love is just one happy moment, with all the friends and families gathered together to celebrate and for sure, you would want your pictures to be of best quality to make the event much lovelier to remember.
However, it is a fact that we don't have the control of what our wedding pictures may come out in the end. You probably want some background eliminated, or you want to enhance the colors of your pictures or you want the color of your bouquet pop up in the photo like it is real, you can always find for a wedding photo editing. What is nicer is that, you can actually do it at home.
One of the most popular programs to help you glamour up your photos is Adobe Photoshop, and you can actually learn it at home. If you really want to save more cost in hiring a Photoshop expert, you can easily learn photo editing at home. Here are some ideas that you might want to do with your wedding photos and make them glamorous.
- Stick to simple editing. When it comes to wedding photo editing, the simpler it is, the better. You don't have to change the background to a more sophisticated one that guests won't recognize. It is also wise to stick with the background but you can blur it a little if you really don't like the background messing up your wedding kiss. You may also want to airbrush some distractions at the back but always stick to simple editing that will enhance the pictures and not make it something like a ad poster.
- In wedding photo editing, the most common styles and effects that add glamour and beauty to your photos are turning your pictures into black and white or sepia which adds drama to your photos and fixing the focus of your photos. If you had a picture that is focused on the background rather than the subject, you can make use of the Gaussian blur menu on Photoshop and blur the background a little more to make the subject pop up in the picture.
You may also add a little dreamy effect on the subject to make the photo more elegant, but remember not to overdo the blurring, as it may not also come out nice.
- The vignette is also another effect that can be done in wedding photo editing. It is helpful in drawing the attention of the viewer to the subject by lightening the edges of the photo - which is a good effect if you want to get the viewer's attention to the newlyweds in a wedding photo.
You can also turn a photo into black and white and retain a portion colored. A reception table adorned with beautiful centerpieces and floral arrangement, for example, can be turned into as black and white retaining the centerpieces colored to make its color pop out of the picture.
Indeed, there are many possibilities to make your wedding photos glamorous and you can do it by yourself also. Of course, by learning how to make use of some simple tools in Adobe Photoshop.

Professional Menu Button in Photoshop

Professional Menu Button
In this easy, step-by-step tutorial I’m going to show you how to design an interesting professional menu button by using some simple filters, for example Gaussian Blur & Motion Blur.

So, the first step what you need to do is create a new document sized 500×300 pixels and fill the background with a gradient. For this select some appropriate colors, for example colors of #000000 and #1b2c3e.
Professional Menu Button 01
Now, select the Rounded Rectangle Tool (Radius: 10 px) and draw out your button onto the canvas in whatever color you want (it doesn’t matter what color you use).
Professional Menu Button 02
Then rasterize this layer with Layer > Rasterize > Shape and apply the following layer styles:

Professional Menu Button 03
Professional Menu Button 04
Your button should look like this:
Professional Menu Button 05
Now, start by making a selection around your button (Select > Load Selection) then contract your selection by about 1 px (Select > Modify > Contract) now you should be left with a selection like this one below. After that create a new layer and fill it with color of #1b1b1d. Then remove selection with Ctrl+D.
Professional Menu Button 06
Time to add shining inside the button. Create a new one layer, then select the Elliptical Marquee Tool and create selection as on picture below. Fill it with blue color (#479ea5):
Professional Menu Button 07
Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and then apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur with next presets:
Professional Menu Button 08
Now we have a blurred spot like on picture below:
Professional Menu Button 09
After that apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar settings to these:
Professional Menu Button 10
Look at your picture now:
Professional Menu Button 11
Now, use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create a new one selection similar to this and fill it with white color.
Professional Menu Button 12
Remove selection with Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur:
Professional Menu Button 13
See the difference now:
Professional Menu Button 14
Ok, the next step: apply another one Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with next settings:
Professional Menu Button 15
Professional Menu Button 16
Then create a new one selection with Rectangular Marquee Tool:
Professional Menu Button 17
After that invert selection with Ctrl+Shift+I and press Delete to clear selected area. Remove selection with Ctrl+D.
Professional Menu Button 18
Now, I would like to add texture to the button. Create a new document sized 3×3 px, then select the Pencil Tool and draw a black grid like mine below:
Professional Menu Button 19
After that use Edit > Define Pattern to save this picture as pattern. Then close this document without savings and go back to your main document. Make a new selection with Rectangular Marquee Tool and fill it with white color.
Professional Menu Button 20
Remove the selection with Ctrl+D and apply the following blending options:

Professional Menu Button 21
Set fill opacity to 7% up and you will see the result.
Professional Menu Button 22
Good designed button, but not finished yet. Now you need to create a new layer, then use the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create selection like on picture below and fill it with white color.
Professional Menu Button 23
Remove the selection with Ctrl+D and apply again Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar settings to these:
Professional Menu Button 24
See the result:
Professional Menu Button 25
Ok, we are almost done with button design. Now, I think we should add some design elements to our button. Ok, create a new layer, after that use the Pencil Tool to make a couple of dots using color of #e2dedf like on picture below:
Professional Menu Button 26
Duplicate layer with Ctrl+J and apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur to the copied layer:
Professional Menu Button 27
Now we have something like this:
Professional Menu Button 28
Now create a new one layer again and draw three lines by Pencil Tool using color of #479ea5:
Professional Menu Button 29
Create one more layers and make a selection with Rectangular Marquee Tool and fill it with the same color.
Professional Menu Button 30
Remove the selection with Ctrl+D, then set opacity up to 30% and merge this layer with previous. After that apply Filter > Blur > Motion Blur with similar settings to these:
Professional Menu Button 31
Now we have something like on picture below:
Professional Menu Button 32
Ok, select the button (Ctrl+left click the first button Layer Thumbnail in the Layers Palette), then create a new layer and fill it with black color.
Professional Menu Button 33
Deselect chosen area with Ctrl+D and apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise:
Professional Menu Button 34
Now, time to mess with some layer modes. For this layer I used Screen with 60% opacity.
Professional Menu Button 35
Now it’s time to add your text to the button! Start by getting out the Horizontal Type Tool, then write out your text using color of #70ffff:
Professional Menu Button 36
The font I’ve used above is called Electrofied (14 pt, Crisp). And that’s pretty much it. I also created a little menu from the buttons. You also can use your own styles and presets. Good luck!
Professional Menu Button 37

Eery-Eye Photo Manipulation in Photoshop

In this Photoshop tutorial I will be walking you through the making of an interesting art piece, “The Eye, the Key of the Soul.”
In this tutorial we will use the burn tool, dodge tool, brushes, layer modes and more to add an interesting effect to an otherwise regular stock photo.
Eery-Eye Photo Manipulation (Photoshop Tutorial)

Preface

Before we get started I would like you to know that this tutorial was written by Krinos, and the stock photo used is by xerolime, you can download it from here.

1.

Open up the stock photo you’ve chosen to be working with for this tutorial. Duplicate it once (just in case!) Find and get out the Burn Tool, change the range/mode for it to ‘midtones’ and set the opacity to something light-medium.
Using the burn tool now, pass in turn of the pupil of the eye and in turn of the eye. Now get out the Dodge Tool and set the mode to midtones again. Use the dodge tool to lighten up the pupil and also among where you used the burn tool to darken.
Doding & Burning Added (1)

2.

Again using the dodge tool, make some ‘rays’ just outside of the iris, and lighten up any other areas you think may need it.
Rays Added to Iris

3.

Now use Lighting Effects (filter > render > lighting effects) to add an interesting lighting effect to the overall photo, you may want to mess around with the colors for the lighting effects filter. Try not to over-saturate the photo though on this step, if your lighting effects affect it too much, go to edit > fade lighting effects and put it at around 50%.
Lghting Effects Added

4.

Now it’s time to recolor the center of the eye. Do this by making a new layer (layer > new > layer) and brush a little bit inside of the eye with a soft brush, using the color of your choice (orange). After you’ve made your little bit of brushing inside of the eye, change the layer mode to Color and lower the opacity to around 50-60%.
Eye Color Changed

5.

Using the dodge and burn tools again, add more light/darkness to the pupil to give it a stronger effect.
Dodging & Burning Eyes / Skin

6.

To add more feeling to the photo, go to layer > new adjustment layer > gradient map and made a black & white gradient map. Change the layer mode for this layer to Luminosity and leave the opacity in tact. Repeat step 4 with the eye color part, you may want to use a lower opacity though, and a different color for the brush.
Stronger Color (Gradient Map)

7.

A little more dodge & burn tool here, remember to mess with the ‘range’ and opacities for the brushes as well, get creative.
I also create another pupil-color layer, brushed inside of it it with a yellow-orange, changed the layer mode to Linear Dodge and lowered the fill to 10%.
Finishing Touches with Dodge & Burn

8.

To finish off, apply a Selective Color adjustment layer (layer > new adjustment layer > selection color) and use the settings that you find look best. Again, in finishing, apply lighting effects again, but this time lower the opacity afterwards to around 35%.

The Making of “Constant Slip" in photoshop

today I'll take you through the creative process of making intriguing light effects and applying them in your work. This is more a process description of making this illustration, than a detailed step by step how to. I'll give you some good guidance on how to deal with an illustration like this and cover the overall workflow. Let's get started!

Tutorial Details

  • Program: Adobe Photoshop CS3
  • Difficulty: Advanced
  • Estimated Completion Time: 45 minutes

Preparation

This is an advanced piece, I mean there are no hard to do techniques, but this kind of work requires a lot of good taste, some color experience and casting shadows knowledge. So I do not recommend this tutorial for beginners. I'll skip basic pointers and go straight to the main point. Basically, I want you to get the idea of how to create an illustration like this and follow your own way with these effects.
Before we start, I wanted to show you how the concept changed during the whole session:
  1. This first image below is the main concept, that I planned. It's the first idea that came to my head: an energy ball with lots of shine lines around it.
  2. While searching images I accidently found an image of a man in a very cool position, so I thought this must be used here. So I put him there and wanted to make an illusion that this man is creating all the energy.
  3. The first plans were done and I started to work on this project. During the process this concept somehow lacked dynamics, so I decided to rotate the whole piece.
  4. Finally, when I had no idea how this energy ball could look like, and this took me some time before I came up with the final idea, I rejected the ball and went into energy touch only for this man.
So you see each project changes when you work on it, so before you get into this tutorial remember to work flexible, not everything needs to look the same way as you planned. Take your time and use your imagination.

Step 1

Before we start, you need to know that the shining effects work best on a black background. The darker the background is, the more visible and contrasted shine you will achieve. So I started with a black background of the canvas around 900px by 1100px (this should work for you fine).

Step 2

Now is the first hard part, searching for the right image. I know many people are unhappy with buying pictures, but well, the truth is: if you want good quality, you need to pay for it. I've nothing against free stock photos, if you have the time to search for a good image among mixed quality free pictures it's OK.
Anyway, if you have the right image, then extract the person (or object) from the image of your choice. The biggest problem of all cut-outs is always the hair. But, as you can see in the image below, I had a short haired man. In this case I simply used the Pen Tool to deal with short hair. And because we have a black background in our main project document, we can easily blend this black hair with the background. To do this I used the Burn Tool with Range set to Midtones and burned the hair edges a little.

Step 3

Now, in the Layers Palette I added two adjustment layers: Levels and Gradient Map to make a better blending between this person and the black background. I used a gradient from black to white and set the Gradient Map layer's Blending Mode to Soft Light, then lowered the Opacity just a touch.

Step 4

OK, next we'll create ground. I used a Gradient Tool and on a new layer created a radial gradient from white to transparent (as you see in the first picture below). Then this big white dot needed some perspective, so here I hit Command + T to Distort (second image below).
The dot was blurred using Gaussian Blur at around 40 pixel Radius. Then I duplicated this blurred dot, stretched it a little bit (Command + T) and made two more copies to enhance the ground effect. If necessary, the opacities of these ground layers can be lowered just a touch. It means that this surface shouldn't be too bright, as this will kinda destroy the concept of having the whole background black.

Step 5

Now, as you can see in the first image below, I started adding shadows under the shoes. It's not suppose to be great and totally pimped shadow. I just needed to make an accent that this man is standing on something. This always works pretty well, as you start to see how your illustration is shaping up, even thought the shade will change, it's good to have it sketched.
To do the shadow I used a black brush with Flow set to 2% and Hardness to 0%, then I slowly started creating it click by click (don't hold the left mouse button while doing this, as you may make a very ugly kind of shadow that way). Individual brush clicks did the job just fine.
Now let's focus on the second image below. Something didn't work for me in this piece, so I decided to add the first dynamic touch to this illustration, so I selected all the layers and used Command + T to rotate them at a small angle (for now it looked kinda like a slip).

Step 6

I zoomed out and positioned this man and ground to the right. I kinda wanted to avoid the center focus of illustration. Sometimes it's good to move the main object/person to the side, looks more dynamic and original to me.
OK, then I decided that this position works perfectly for this piece and started touching up shadows. Looking at this man it's visible that few sources of light hit him (for example his left hand shows that light reaches it from left and right). So in this case I decided to give this man a soft shadow, only underneath him by using the same technique as previously.
I only want you to pay attention to his shoes which are the closest objects to the ground. Shoes stick to the surface, this means they need more shadow around them. The farther the objects are from the ground, the more they start to disappear (and the shadow starts to soften, then slowly vanish).

Step 7

As I was watching my illustration now, I felt like there are some spots that are too bright, so I used the Burn Tool to enhance the shade effect of the shoes. I also did some blending with the hand, as It seemed too bright on the left side.

Step 8

Finally this man is ready. Now this illustration needs to look more like one piece. So I did some overall color adjusting. I added a Curves adjustment layer and then a Gradient Map with a Violet to Orange gradient (picked from standard presets). Then I lowered the Opacity of the Gradient Map to around 25-30% and changed its Blending Mode to Soft Light. Both adjustment layers were set up to give this illustration a yellowish touch (as I experimented and liked it).

Step 9

Now it looks like this man really belongs to this place, and that's the thing we want. Next, I started all the light tricks.
Here is something abstract that I prepared for this piece. So I opened these lights and dragged them into the project while changing its Blending Mode to Linear Dodge. It was put above all layers just not to get colorized by two previous adjustment layers.
Now look at the process. As I already had these abstract lights, I took the Burn Tool (Midtones) and burned parts of this piece that I wanted to get rid of (2nd image below). Then many less of these lines lasted, so I used a hard Eraser Tool to erase the rest of the disturbing lines, which I didn't want to see here (3rd image below). Finally I added Image > Adjustments > Color Balance and adjusted this color exactly for these three main lines (blue, green and yellow). I worked to achieve cool, bright coloring for these lines.
This can be done for each line separately, but before that they need to be cut out into new layers.

Step 10

As I said, if you don't have some color experience, this tutorial will be difficult for you to follow. Now is the further part when I repeated the same process as in the previous step. I created, erased, separated new lines and added various colors.

Step 11

I was still into adding color light lines, and I want to show you another example of flexible work. During this process I had many ideas of how to connect and set these lines.
First I thought maybe a good idea would be to cross them and make them in different positions (1st image below). This didn't work out and I decided to make all the lines almost parallel (2nd image below). So I made it, and for some variation I added one green line that kinda crossed the space, but it gave some depth to the illustration so I left it be.

Step 12

Now I added some more brightness in places indicated below using soft white brush. The new layer was created below the lines layers, as these lines are half transparent (cause of the linear dodge mode), so everything put below these lines is visible.

Step 13

I played around with these lines and achieved some cool results (first image below). All done the same way as I showed previously.
Next I felt like this piece needs some more details going all around it and filling in some blanks. You can find some similar brushes to the ones I used for this. Experiment with various brushes in this step.
I picked one my grungy splatter brushes. Then found a nice dark color (coming from the color that I used in light lines - in my case it happened to be blue) and made a brush mark (second image below). Then I brought up the selection of this brush mark and contracted it by 2 pixels by going to Select > Modify > Contract (third image below). Next I hit Delete to get rid of the center brush part (forth image below). Then I positioned it near a light blue line.

Step 14

Now as I had this brush mark placed correctly, I used a soft eraser and erased disturbing parts. Then switching between the Burn Tool (Midtones) and Dodge Tool (Highlights) I pimped out selected dark spots of this brush mark.
When using the Burn Tool you actually darken the spot. When using the Dodge Tool, you brighten it up. So I was very careful in this step, a small overdo can destroy the idea.
So this process is just to show you how it works, the brush mark in the first three images below are just an example. In the forth image below you can see the brushes that I used originally.

Step 15

By the way we're still with these brushes, pay attention to the little pieces above the man's head (first image below) and the ones near his leg (second image below). Yes, they were made the same way as previously. To do this you can even use some splatter brushes and follow the same process.
Also pay attention to the second image below. I indicated a spot that points to shadow. This shadow made an illusion that these little pieces are in the air. So if you get more small pieces around the ground, you can cast some shadows underneath them (but on the ground) and this will give your effects more depth.

Step 16

Next to to add some sparkle to this illustration I decided to use a picture of sky and cut the sun out of it. Then I desaturated this piece (second image below) and set its Blending Mode to Linear Dodge and I erased all the unnecessary parts around this sun (with the Eraser Tool). I also brought up the Levels (Command + L) and enhanced the contrast. Then I used Burn Tool (Midtones) to enhance the light effect and darken the rays (fourth image below). Finally, I colored this sun using Hue/Saturation and Color Balance, I made it green and then gave it a touch of yellow.

Step 17

The sun was resized down to a very small size, and at this size it completely stops being recognizable as a shining sun. Now it's just a shining spot. I duplicated it many times and placed it in various spots. By the way, I changed the color when it was necessary to make these lights fit. To change colors I followed similar steps as before (basically Hue/Saturation and when the tone was not fully satisfying I pimped it with Color Balance).

Step 18

Moving forward I thought I'd use these nice clouds of this sky to make some dust. So I opened the image and desaturated it. Then (as previously) I used Levels (Command + L) to make the clouds stand out. Next, I used a soft Eraser and got rid of unwanted parts (fifth image below). Finally, I grabbed Burn Tool (Midtones) and made some touch-ups to these clouds. I kinda separated them and brought them up more.

Step 19

I named these clouds "Dust" and changed the layer's Blending Mode to Linear Dodge. Then rotated them and placed them towards the lines direction (as you can see in the image below).
I made a small comparison below, the whole illustration got a little bit smoother when I added this dust.

Step 20

So the illustration was almost finished, but the light lines were still not blended enough with the model. I hit Command + A to select the whole canvas, and then Command + Shift + C (copy merged) and Command + V (paste). This way I made a duplicate of the whole image and put it on top of all the layers.
Then while having this image selected, I went to Filter > Liquify and as you can see in the first image below, I did some stretching using the Forward Warp Tool (in Liquify filter). In the second image below you can see how smooth and nice these lines were blended.

Step 21

As the final touch I wanted to give this piece a little more realism, so I casted light reflections on this man's clothes and skin. Each arrow below has the color of the nearest line. For example, the first orange arrow point of the shirt spot which should be affected by the orange light line. So I gave an orange color to this spot, and so on with the others.
To do that I made a new layer with the Blending Mode set to Color (Soft Light in some cases works fine also), then I used a very soft brush with proper color, and Voilà!

Conclusion

In the end you can give it a nice overall sharpen using highpass filter, this will bring even more quality to your work. So I hope you liked this piece, thanks for reading. The main purpose of this tutorial was to show you a good direction in how to use these effects. So be creative and try to discover your way of using them.

Create a Fashion Web Layout (PSD Template) Using Photoshop

68

Hello and welcome to another tutorial, here at ArtBox7.com
Today I will create a fashion web layout, (psd template). The end result is not astonishing but it will help you to understand better how you can create a nice and clean web layout (psd template) using Photoshop. If you are an experienced Photoshop user, this tutorial is not for you instead our Complete Designer Set it will fit pretty well for your design needs ;)
To create a similar web layout you will need the following:
As you already know, our main website ArtBox7.com  is a designer shop dedicated to create  vector graphics , Photoshop brushes and vector icons. We have created a special pack for our tutorial readers, called Complete Designer Set. Basically this is a must have package for every designer because it’s filled with more than 5000 graphic elements (and more still to come). In this pack you will find most of the elements required to create  designs such as web templates, banners, t-shirt designs, flayers, brochures, textiles, etc.
With  Complete Designer Set you can create almost anything related to designs because in this package we have combined raster designs (must used for web templates) with vector graphics (used in print industry)
More than that by acquiring “Complete Designer Set” you will save time! To create this set we have worked more than 6000 hours, that’s almost 250 days (or 8 months working 24h/day)
You can read more & acquire “Complete Designer Set” here
Now let’s get back to our tutorial:

Step 1

Fire up Photoshop and create a new document with the following dimensions: 1020 X 1170. As a background choose: #e8e8e8
10

Step 2

Select rectangle tool and create a rectangle on the top of the document. I have used black #00000, than from Complete Designer Set use an swirl ornament (you will have hundreds of choices) and place it on the top of the document, and set the opacity to 36%
Next select Type Tool and write your desired text for logo. I have typed ArtBox7 (using black and red)
13

Step 3

Creating the search bar
Select rectangle tool, and create a shape on the top right side. I have used this color: #e1cdcd than select rounded rectangle tool (with a radios of 6 px) and draw a small shape using this color #e73c61.
Here’s my result:
18

Step 4

Creating the navigation
First of all I will add 2 guides to position better the navigation.
To add the guides, in Photoshop menu go to : View>New Guide
20
A new windows will pop-up. Here enter the following values: 40px for the first guide and 977px for the second one.
21
22
Next, using rounded rectangle tool, create a new  shape which will serve as a navigation. As a radios I have use 10px.
Note: Please make sure that you will position this shape between the guides.
23
Then apply the following layer styles:
24
25
My result:
26
Next using type tool (T) add some text for navigation using the following details:
27
Here’s my result:
28
Next, because this will be the main navigation we will need to find a way to mark the selected page. That’s why I will select again Rounded Rectangle Tool to add a shape with a radious of 10px. I will add this shape on the Home area and I will apply the following layer styles:
Color: #e33258
29
30
31
The navigation is finished now.

Step 5

Creating the Header
Select Rounded Rectangle Tool and create a shape underneath the header. Be sure to place it between those 2 guides. Mine has the following dimensions: 938px X 309px
Next from Complete Designer Set, select an pack with some vector elements and place one of them in Photoshop. Basically you will need do drag the vector from Illustrator in Photoshop.
33
34
Change the Color
35
Change the opacity
36
My result
37
Next using type tool add a slogan for the header
38
And apply the following layer style
39
Than duplicate this text
40
Make sure that the duplicated text is selected on your layer panel and then go to :
Filter> Blur>Motion Blur
42
Make sure that the angle is set to 0 and for distance enter 90px
43
Here’s my result so far:
44
The header is not looking quite well yet, that’s why I will need to search on my hard drive for a stock image. You should know that every designer should have on their hard drive – vectors packs, icons, Photoshop brushes, textures and stock images.
Basically when you have a project which needs to be done ASAP, stock vectors, icons and  Photoshop brushes are a golden mine because it can help you to create a nice looking design in a shorter time….
On our Complete Designer Set you will find more than 5000 elements (vectors, icons, Photoshop brushes), every element was been hand drawn by our design team and the entire process (to create this entire set) took us more than 6000 hours!
Well, I found that image and now all I have to do is to place it in Photoshop. Here I will need to make sure that the layer for this image is above the “Header: layer.
45
Next I will select the “Image” layer, right click on it and I will select “Create Clipping Mask”
46
My result
47
The result is quite nice but I will like to enhance a little bit the slogan, that’s why I will make sure that I will select again the “Image” layer and then I’ll go to :
Layer>Layer Mask>Hide All
48
Having layer “Header ” selected, grab “Gradient Tool” and here make sure that the color is set up to default – Black and White
51
Next click on the layer mask 52.jpg and then hold and drag with the mouse starting from the right side to the left
53
Here’s my result:
55
As you can see the image is too bright, that’s why I will select the layer “Image” and I will lower the opacity to 63%
58
Here’s my result
59
Next, I will add some thumbnails at the bottom of the header. I will select redounded rectangle tool with a radios of 20px,  I will set the color to: # e33258
Here’s my result:
62
Than using some small images I will create the thumbnails
63

Step 6

Creating the content area
Using rectangle tool I will add a white shape with the following dimensions 939px X 574px
On the top of the shape, I will add a shadow. Select Ellipse Tool  and add a similar shape
64then apply a Gaussian blur (Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur) with a radios of 37px
65 and place the layer (I have called Shadow) below the layer “Content”
You should have a nice looking shadow now.
67
Proceed in the same way for the shadow at the bottom of the content area….
To finish up this step I will add some images and some dummy text.
68

Step 7

Creating the footer
The footer is quite easy to create, in fact it’s similar with the top area and logo. I will select rectangle tool and I will create a black shape at the bottom than I will copy the logo, but I will make the text a little bit smaller and than from Complete Designer Set I will add an vector ornament. Here’s my result:

Conclusion: If you have followed me step by step you should have a similar web layout. The end result is not astonishing but instead you will understand better how to use Photoshop to create some nice and clean web layouts. Along with Photoshop I recommend Complete Designer Set!

Android Gets App Love From Photoshop And Slacker

Coinciding with the availability of the Motorola Droid and the HTC Eris at Verizon Wireless stores today, the Android Market is featuring two juicy, new applications. Photoshop.com Mobile and Slacker Radio mean more photo editing and Internet radio powers for Android lovers.

Adobe introduced Photoshop.com Mobile for the iPhone just a few weeks ago. Now it's Android's turn.

The application works in conjunction with a Photoshop.com account (which is free), and allows users to sync up to 2GB of photos with the Photoshop.com site. The best part of this integration with Photoshop.com is that Android users can access their entire online photo library from their phone.

The most basic features offered by the software include cropping, rotating and flipping; ways to alter color exposure, saturation, tin, white and black; filters that apply sketching or soft focus; as well as effects such as vignetting, borders white glow and so on.

Most of the features are enabled with one touch, such as dragging your fingers across the screen to crop and rotate photos.

Adobe says that Photoshop.com Mobile for Android offers some features that aren't available in the iPhone version. Users can automatically upload pictures to Photoshop.com albums in the background, even when the Photoshop.com Mobile application is not running. The new tab-based user interface enables users to view local and online content. Also, the Android Photo Browser makes maneuvering through photos fast and convenient, bringing users’ complete photo collections right to their pockets.

Photoshop.com Mobile for Android sounds like a great way to take advantage of the 5 megapixel cameras that are in both the Droid and the Eris.

For the music fan, Slacker Radio is also now available from the Android Market. Slacker is already available for other smartphone platforms such as the iPhone and BlackBerry OS. It allows users to take advantage of their phones' data connections to stream custom radio stations. Once you create a (free) account online, keeping your preferences and music in sync with your device is a snap.

Both apps are free. Enjoy.

5 easy ways to make money online with Photoshop

well, everyday we read on net that many people earn from Adsense, affliate marketing or Forex..but we gonna take a different approach today.
This is the scenario: You are a skilled Photoshop artist, or perhaps you are a great photographer. If that’s not true, then you may be a cool designer or at least have some nice Photoshop tips or tricks that nobody knows. And you need money.
No matter what your skills are, if you are capable of creating something with a certain appeal with Photoshop or even other graphics application, there are many ways that you can turn that into money with certain ease.

In this article you won’t find any get-rich-quick tips. In fact, to quit your day job and make a living with this information may take you a long while. But, as with most in life, it depends on you. I will only show you what’s out there and make your startup a little easier.
Take into consideration that most of these tips do not require that you have a web site of your own, but with all the free services available, I believe that there is no excuse for not creating your own web site. Two interesting services are: Wordpress.com (free blog hosting) and Google pages (free web pages hosting).

Tip #1: Create Photoshop brushes or other goodies
and sell them online.

Photoshop brushes are hot, hot, hot. Hotter than anything. Designers and artists are hungry for brushes. Photoshop brushes are total winners. Sadly there are a lot available on the web for free. The good news is that only your imagination is the limit. Take a look at what’s out there and create your own collection. Perhaps, instead of creating a collection of a million low quality brushes, you can create a good high resolution, high quality, brushes set or collection and sell them at your web site. Although textures, patterns, actions, and other Photoshop goodies are not that popular, you can always build a nice collection with those. Don’t worry if there is a lot of competition out there (and believe me there is), you simply have to offer a higher quality product than the rest and, most important of all, sell it better than the competition.
Once you have your product, you have to sell it. There are a lot of shareware and downloadable software payment processing services that will take care of all the payment process and also of the file hosting and delivery. Some of them even offer some exposure for your product and affiliate program solutions.
.: Payment processing services
» ShareIt and RegNow
Formerly independent companies, now both belong to Digital River’s network. These are among the most popular payment processing and software distribution providers. They host your application and provide marketing solutions too.
» PayPal
The most popular electronic payment processor. Since it is so popular, it increases the chances of an impulse purchase. Many people don’t consider their PayPal balance as money. They are more willing to spend money from their PayPal account than paying with a credit card.
» Payloadz and E-junkie
Both services offer a great load of options and features, some of them for free. I can’t talk much about E-junkie because I didn’t try them. But opening an account and submitting a file to PayLoadz is amazingly fast. They even have an ebay store.

Tip #2: Create your own gift store with your artwork

There are a lot of services where you can sell gifts (mugs, ebooks, t-shirts, calendars, you name it) with your own artwork or content on a print-on-demand basis. That’s the beauty of it. You don’t need to spend a lot of money building a stock base of products. In fact with these services you don’t need to spend ANY money. Just select the product you want, upload your content, select a few options, set your pricing and you are ready to go!
It is advisable to purchase some of your own items to check the quality of the output. Check following links to read more about these services: CafePress alternatives (talks about the alternatives to CafePress and the quality of these services). T-Shirt Forums (users share their experience in this T-Shirt design and marketing forum).
.: Print on demand services with e-store capabilities
» CafePress
» Zazzle
» Lulu
» 99 Dogs
» Print Mojo
» Printfection
» Spread Shirt
» Brandi Jasmine Art Links
This site hosts a large amount of CafePress help links and alternatives along with other art related links.

Tip #3: Participate on contests.

I call this an easy way to earn money only because it is easy to submit your artwork to contests. The problem is that in this case your artwork has to be the best. In some cases, it is not the best artwork the one that wins, but the best idea. Anyway, here’s a little list of contests sites that can give you some earnings or at list some cool prizes.
.: Art and design contests sites
» Worth1000
The mother of all Photoshop Contest sites. Worth1000 (a picture is WORTH a THOUSAND words, got it?) hosts some corporate contests with cash prizes.
» Photoshop Talent
Photoshop Talent members award you with points that are exchangeable for money. Not much money here, but if you are a regular submitter (and winner) you can make some. Prizes go for the winner and 2nd and 3rd place runner ups.
» Photoshop Contest
There are no money prizes here, but the prizes are cool. Graphics tablets, training Dvds, iPods, etc..
» Photoshoped up
No prizes here. You earn points but it is not clear if they will turn into prizes in the future. But if you are a car tuning freak, this is the place to go.
» Graphic Competitions
This site is a directory of worldwide graphics competitions.
» Site Point Design Contests
Site Point’s forum of design contests. Great prizes.
» Elance, Get a Freelancer and Freelancer Network
Not exactly contests sites. A project is posted and freelancers post their quotation and skills to win that project.

Tip #4: Write your own tutorials.

Love to write but don’t want to write an ebook? Just write a good amount of tutorials and build your own web site or blog. Then submit your tutorials to tutorials directories and start watching the traffic come. You can submit tutorials to The Photoshop Roadmap, Photoshop Lover and Tutorialized among many others.
To earn money with this, you will have to display ads in your tutorials pages. The first and obvious option is Google Adsense. But there are also some other interesting choices like Chitika (mini e-malls) and Kontera (in-text ads). These ad networks pay you for each click made by your visitors. You can also join Amazon.com affiliates program to offer products related with your site’s topic and earn a commission for each sale you make. AzoogleAds is another good choice because it offers a vast amount of special offers where your visitors don’t necessary have to purchase something. If your visitors request a free sample or simply leave an email and a zip code, you will be paid. Nice, isn’t it?

Tip #5: Sell your photographs or illustrations.

You can find a lot of Stock Photography and Illustrations stores around and most of them, if not all, accept submissions from photographers and artists. In general they will pay you on a per sale basis.
At Berman Graphics web site you can find a tutorial about selling your images on ebay
The following list shows some sites that accept submissions from Photographers and Illustrators.
.: Stock Photography and illustration online stores
» Shutter Point Stock Photography
» Dreams Time Stock Photography
» SutterStock Stock Photography
» Fotolia Stock Photography
» Stock Art Stock Illustrations
» Illustration Works Stock Illustrations
» Etoon Stock Cartoons
» Cartoon Stock Stock Cartoons

EXTRA TIP! Tip #6: Create and sell your own Photoshop plugins.

Warning! Loads of money here! But wait… Bad news: This is not an easy way to earn money with Photoshop at all. Additionally you will have to invest a lot of money in such a project.
If that’s not a problem, then I suggest you to read this article I wrote before: Programming Photoshop Plugins which is a thorough guide about the insights of programming a Photoshop plugin, including the idea generation phase, marketing and selling the final product.

EXTRA TIP #2! Tip #7: Write something that’s cool or unique.

TIP #4 suggests you to write your own tutorials and submit them to tutorials directories. Some directories out there can drive a huge amount of traffic to your site for some days and then some small but steady traffic for a long while.
But sometimes you may come up with an article or project that doesn’t fit the limited categories of most tutorials directories. Then it’s time to contact those who love to discover and show special or unique content to the world.
There are some great blogs out there that can expose your article to a wider audience. Some examples are blogs like LifeHacker, PhotoJojo, John Nack, LockerGnome and Digital Photography School Blog (thanks Darren for mentioning this article!), to mention a few.
Remember that we are talking about Photoshop, photography and graphics here, so you should be very creative in your topic selection to stand out from the crowd.
You simply have to send them a polite email asking if they would like to check your article, and explain them why you believe it may be of their interest. But please, send them an article with some value. Don’t even think of asking them to read your latest chrome text or scanline effect. They will probably delete your email without even looking at what you’ve sent.
If you succeed, the traffic coming from blogs like the ones mentioned above will be large and of an excellent qualiy.Don’t forget that high quality traffic is the best that can happen to your site.
I would like to thank Chris Pirillo, a web celebrity also known as the LockerGnome, for suggesting me this tip. Thanks Chris!

Just a final word: The resources posted on this article are by no means the only ones available. You will have to do your own research, specially if you plan to sell stock images. There are a lot of stock images stores online and they offer very different commercial relationship with the artist. Another good advice is to create your own web site. That will help you do a better marketing of your products.
