*******CALL OUT TO ALL CITIZENS OF KARACHI******

Cartoons on Gaza Massacre-3.jpg While Olmert claims to be considering peace agreements and a truce, ” The Israeli military has received the green signal to continue its apartheid and murderous assault on the citizens of Gaza. More than 700 Palestinians have been murdered and more than 3,000 seriously wounded. Gaza’s hospitals are overflowing with patients and have virtually no medicine left. Power, water and sewage systems are no longer functioning, and food supplies are gone in many areas. The people of Gaza are suffering a humanitarian disaster of unspeakable proportions.

Cosmopolistan: Proudly Presenting: The 14th Annual (Everyone’s a) Critics’ Choice Awards!
2009 has officially ushered in the award season (The Golden Globes, the Oscars, and the fashion faux pas* that ensue) with the 14th Critics’ Choice Awards, handed out on the 8th of January.

Movie-buffs must have already checked out the winners’ list. Fanatics/know-it-alls must have committed each chart to memory.

However, for those who really couldn’t give a toss about who won, but want to check out the ‘it-films’ to purchase from Illusions/download the torrents of; movies with greater IQ level than say, a Marley & Me, or a Beverly Hills Chihuahua, click here.

For all you testosterone-filled teenagers who couldn’t get enough of him last year, and who only want one thing from us girls:

Yes, Heath Ledger won the Best Supporting Actor trophy for his performance in The Dark Knight. You may now close this browser and start wankingjumping with joy.

Some interesting observations we made:

Underdog Slumdog Millionaire led the field with five awards – however, we contest its win for Best Picture and Best Director. Wall-E should have won Best Picture! Before you open that mouth to protest, answer this: have you even seen Wall-E?

However, even Wall-E’s nomination is a sign of changing times. The only other animated film to be nominated in the Best Picture category (The Academy Awards) was 1992’s Beauty and the Beast. Which, come to think of it, should have won too.

Danny Boyle, you were brilliant and all, but seriously: there’s no match for director David Fincher’s craftsmanship in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

A tie for the Best Actress win? Why not just go ahead and give everyone a sodding award then. (We love you, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep!)

A.R. Rehman wins Best Composer for his sublime work in Slumdog Millionaire! Took you long enough to recognize genius, guys.
Why in the name of all that is Holy was “Another Way to Die” (read: insipid Bond song for an equally insipid Bond movie) even nominated in the Best Song category?

*And speaking of fashion faux pas: Sarah Silverman, we love you (especially for giving us: I'm fuc*ing Matt Damon) but what the hell is this,
Anne Hathaway = Cruella de Vil hangover,
Marisa Tomei, because she can-can-can't,
The usually classy Katy Perry, in a lingerie ad gone wrong,
Kristen Bell, voice behind 'Gossip Girl'/Elle Bishop from 'Heroes,' looking like a leftover from a trashy Paris Hilton party, (Not convinced? Check this one out)
Oh sweet Jesus what is this?!
But the one that takes the cake and is posted below:

Oh, Angelina: we practically worship you - but you look like a bedsheet. The world's most beautiful woman: a bedsheet.

Did we hear the collective breaking of a million hearts?

Thought so.

Lahore Metblogs: 4 blasts@Mall Road and one@Ferozpur Road

During last two hours, Lahore experienced four blasts near Alflah building on Mall Road and the recent, fifth blast is just heard near Tamaseel Theatre on Ferozpur Road. Investigations are going on and most of blasts are considered a result of “crackers” as they were not so powerful. Media is airing live footage, playing a vital role to inform public.
I find so much rage against these terrorist activities, even if it is for harassment by antisocial elements. It is happening right after first ten days of month of Muharram, when security measures seemed bit relaxed. I request LMB readers to pray for peace and serenity, that is all we can do right away (yeah, feeling helpless).

We, Muslims, are estimated at around 1.84 billion in number on the face of this planet. Yet, we are undoubtedly the most oppressed and persecuted of people. Five Rupees: George Bush’s Biggest Fiasco?
Doonesbury at Slate is holding a poll to ascertain George Bush’s biggest fiasco. There are three options:

A) Iraq;

B) Katrina; and

C) The Economy

Iraq currently leads with 82% of the votes, followed by The Economy with 13%, and Katrina with 4%.

Bush’s failures in Iraq and his inability to stem the economic collapse will certainly haunt us for decades but Bush’s inability to act after Hurricane Katrina and his reliance on incapable stooges (anyone remember 'Brownie'?) directly cost American civilians their lives and their livelihoods, which is why Katrina got my vote.

What would you vote for?

Behind the Chairman’s Door: A Great Letter

I found this letter on the Washington Post website and thought that it gives great understanding of why the US was the only member of the UN Security Council to abstain from the vote for a ceasefire yesterday:

In November, The Post accurately described the Mumbai attacks as a massacre [editorial, Nov. 29]. Last week, you reported the killing of nine people by a man dressed as Santa Claus ["Grim Details Surface in Calif. Massacre," news story, Dec. 27].

Then there was the Dec. 29 news story in which you rightly said that Ugandan rebels “massacred” 189 people in their country. And you reported in great detail the massacre of 32 students and teachers at Virginia Tech in 2007. Yet, when more than 200 people died in the Gaza Strip on the first day of one of the bloodiest confrontations in the history of modern Middle East conflict, you reported at the top of the front page on Dec. 28, “Israeli Warplanes Pound Gaza.”

So when is a massacre not a massacre? Apparently when the victims are Palestinian.

– Susan Kerin

Thank you for pointing out again for the biased US media what the Palestinians have been screaming for decades.
